Is A Brass Bed Made Of Brass?

A brass bed is either made of entirely of brass or other metals which are brass-plated. Generally the headboard and foot-board are constructed of brass and the rest of the bed frame is made from steel or iron.

Cleaning a brass bed can be a challenging task especially if it has not been cleaned since it was bought. Years and years of use, dirt, grime and other things stick to the brass and can be hard to remove with soap and water.

Here are a few easy tips on how to clean your bed.

Gather together the materials you need. To clean a brass bed, you need brass cleaner, dry and clean cotton cloths, salt, vinegar, a sponge and a large piece of heavy duty plastic sheeting to protect the surroundings.

Start by removing the mattress and bedding.
Obvious I know, but before working on cleaning your brass bed, remove the mattress, pillows, bed sheets and blankets to avoid staining them with the cleaning materials. Set them aside where they won’t be slashed during the cleaning process.

Wipe the bed with the brass cleaner. Dab a small amount of brass cleaner onto the dry cloth and wipe the cleaner all over the brass bed.

Follow with a homemade solution. Mix salt and vinegar to achieve a consistency of a thickish paste. Wipe the mixture all over the frame, making sure not to drip any on the floor or carpet. Let it stand for a few minutes then follow up with a cloth to remove the mixture and finally burnish to reveal the wonderful warm glow of polished brass beds. Once the bed is fully cleaned, the frame will shine, free of any dirt or grime.

Finally replace the bedding after you have made sure that there’s no residual brass cleaner or the salt and vinegar mixture. Put back the mattress and the bed sheets and pillows. Your bed will look as if it is new, with the bed frame shiny and clean.

It’s a good idea to clean your brass bed at regular intervals to prevent a build up of dirt and greasy finger marks. You can’ avoid the metal getting gruby so it is better to clean you brass bed frequently and it will be easier to get rid of the dirt and grime.
